The scene is set on a historic Cape Dutch homestead in the Stellenbosch Winelands: Webersburg Wine Farm, and it is every bit as beautiful as it sounds. It was a hot summer's day, blue skies overhead, perfect for the alfresco long-table reception that awaited the guests. Crisp white linen, the Helderberg mountain range as a backdrop, and a big dam with grazing ducks that made for some of my favourite frames of the day.
I was second shooting for Megan&I on this one, and from the moment I arrived I could sense this was no ordinary wedding. God was in the details, and the guests showed up dressed to match. Long-time friends reuniting, the kind of warmth in a room that you feel before you see it.
The moments that stood out most: the couple's quiet, obvious love for each other; the private gifts they exchanged before the ceremony; and the arrival of the bride in a beautiful classic car. The ceremony itself, set over the dam with the mountains behind them, was spectacular, one of those scenes where you just trust the light and press the shutter.
And the décor at the Canopi? A feast for the eye. I'll admit it, I'm a sucker for a beautifully styled wedding, and
I spent a very happy stretch of time doing detail shots while guests sipped champagne on the bank of the dam.

One thing that makes Webersburg a dream to photograph is how seamlessly the spaces connect. From the Manor House's classic Cape Dutch interiors to the sun-drenched terraces and lush garden alcoves, every setting has the same soul, and that continuity makes for natural, unforced storytelling from "I do" to last dance.
There are also multiple options for both ceremony and reception, which gives couples real flexibility. If the weather cooperates, and in the Cape, we all know it has its own agenda - the outdoor spaces are spectacular. All that natural light is exactly what my style of photography is built around.
One honest note: the barn can be quite dark, so if you're planning your reception there, make sure your lighting is well considered. It's a minor thing in an otherwise perfect venue, and easily solved with the right décor team.
The sunset couple shoot under the old trees, with that wide green lawn stretching out behind you, is something I look forward to at every Webersburg wedding. The stairs at the Manor House are made for a confetti moment. And the ducks, I will always find the ducks.

The morning started at the Manor House, where the groom and his men were getting ready — relaxed and unhurried, the way old friends are around each other when something big is about to happen. That classic Cape Dutch light, high ceilings, whitewashed walls. The kind of room that does half the work for you. The bride arrived looking like she'd had the same kind of morning, calm, radiant, ready.
The ceremony over the dam was everything. The couple stood with the Helderberg mountains behind them, the water still and glassy, the guests fanned out on either side. When they exchanged their private gifts before the vows — small, personal, clearly meaningful — the room went quiet in that particular way that tells you this moment matters. I barely moved.
After the ceremony, the guests spilt out onto the Canopi terrace, champagne in hand, the afternoon sun doing what Western Cape summer does best. This is where I disappeared into the crowd for a while — the laughter, the reunions, old friends finding each other across the lawn.
The confetti moment on the Manor House stairs was exactly as good as it always is.
The long-table reception as the light faded was stunning. White linen, candlelight starting to come into its own, the mountains turning that deep blue they go just before dark. The couple moved through their guests the way people do when they're genuinely happy — unhurried, present, not performing for anyone. The dancing that followed was loud and uninhibited and exactly right.
And somewhere between the detail shots and the last dance, I found the ducks.

Webersburg is one of those venues that gives a photographer options at every turn. The light on the estate is generous — the open terraces and garden spaces are made for natural light photography, and the golden hour under those old trees is something I genuinely look forward to. The dam is endlessly useful: reflections, ceremony backdrops, couple portraits, the occasional duck photobombing a serious moment.
If you're planning your day here, a few things worth knowing: the barn reception space benefits from good supplementary lighting, so worth a conversation with your décor team early. The Manor House stairs are perfect for a confetti exit — wide, symmetrical, and they photograph beautifully from below. And if your timeline allows for a sunset couple shoot on the lawn, don't skip it. That green against the mountain backdrop in the last light of a Western Cape summer is hard to beat.
